BOOK REVIEW - ARSH VERMA's The Velvet Hotline

The Book

The book tells a story of a well- meaning protagonist, Ayingbi who an empath by nature, starts finding herself in trouble the more she wants to help other people in need.

The story delves in the matter of supernatural.

A fictional omious entity trying to weaponize the despair of people living on the edge of committing suicide and harvesting their pain to create agony in the world and propagate circumstances for them to commit suicide.

You will read on to find how the ominous agenda is curtailed because of a very simple fact aided by our protagonist who is ready to sacrifice herself to save the world from being devoured by the supernatural power.

The author moves effortlessly from comedy to thriller and paranormal activity without the readers noticing until the very last page.

I enjoyed the natural style of writing and truly appreciate the author's keen view on the minutest of details and chain of events before moving on to the story.

If you look a bit closely, this story sends out a simple yet a deep meaning that suicidal thoughts can come to anybody as these are nothing but an image of human misery. Human misery has a peculiar taste whereby it forces you to imagine a world of complete happiness and quickly flips to negativity making you believe that a normal state can never be achieved no matter how hard you try. Thus, making you succumb to your whirpool of thoughts.

You will find yourself imagining and reading about a bizarre presence, ocult, telepathy and parapsychology which in turn will keep you on tenterhooks to quickly know what happens next.

This book is a complete recipe for a thriller, full of suspense and paranormal flick in the making.

On a personal note, I truly believe in the power of manifestation. There are times when we want to give up or give in becasue somewhere deep down we are trying to evade worries or issues at hand. The moment we are able to shuffle the idea of giving up to 'lets try one more time', something ought to change for better.

Ironically, both the situations are part of manifesting, save that the latter has a spark of self- correction.

Well, in the author's own words - 'Real battles are fought alone'

Toward the end, the author has gifted his readers a simple message on life, worth taking a note on!

My  'Ayingbi-style' imagination tells me to look forward to a stunning and enthralling big screen flick.

The Author

All in all, this was a fantastic read for the very reason that it was both a thriller and infectiously meaningful.

Happy Reading!
