MEMORIZATION - A SKILL TO HOLD ON TO...
This one is a question and an introspection.
Ever since the rise in availability of easily accessible information over the Internet, have we developed a hidden reluctance to explore the power of memorization?
Is it true that we see availability of information just a click away and take it for granted?
Have we forgotten the idea of 'learning by heart'?
These are some questions skimming through my head when I regularly dive in a flurry of several open tabs and enormous browsing history every single day. I am sure this is not an unusual scene for you either.
In a world of Big Data, for sure we do not need enormous manuscript for people to refer to and heavy course books for school kids to carry on their shoulders.
Yet, as humans our brain is going to be ever green, ever smarter and analytical. This is fool proof until we ignore the power of memorization.
Is Memorizing Equal To Rote-Learning?:
Pushing your brain towards learning to memorize is an activity that generates a skill set which forms a salient feature of analytical thinking and cognition.
In this regard, memorization is a skill that increases focus, memory, logical thinking and provides a strong edifice to a better active mind. Definitely, no one can ever achieve these traits if we sat down to learn by rote.
Ease Of Use:
When it comes to the source of information, we can blindly witness what is by large the best choice for people.
The following pie-chart which is based on a small survey to see what people like to refer to when it is about adding to their vocabulary, is no surprise.
We love the Internet because it is awesome and it makes our search for knowledge,
'Lightning McQueen'!
What Is The Best Combo:
For most people who had no access to Wi-Fi at homes or phone data up until the last decade or so and studying for exams meant perusing the pages of monstrous books, know how viable and life-saver Internet is. It is unquestioned that the combination of freely available data via Internet, critical thinking and memorizing skill is an unparalleled feat to have.
What People Prefer Today:
Per a concise survey, people do enjoy the benefits and ease of technology. However, there are certain things they enjoy doing in pristine ways like enjoying to write or learning to write cursive, visiting libraries and having the desire to know the world map and still preferring technology in order to make life easier.
Conclusion:
However the advancement in technology may grow, human brain will keep growing in strength. The power of memorization is not to be mistaken for cramming information.
It is a gateway to critical thinking and annihilation of forgetfulness.
